Parking permit (HC certificate)

Bil Bevis HC Parkering

You can apply for a parking permit (HC certificate) for a car if your child has an illness or functional disability.

Parking tickets do not only apply to wheelchair users!

In addition to not being able to walk on your own machine, you also qualify if you have reduced endurance, limited walking function, or have psychological challenges. Examples of the above can be lung disease, heart disease, autism, intestinal disease, etc.

There is no age limit for parking permits, and it is the municipality that awards the permit.

HC certificate is issued for at least 2 years at a time to a maximum of 10 years at a time.

You must send an application to the municipality's service and coordination office/ordering office/application office (dear child has many names!). In some municipalities they have their own parking authority. If you are wondering where to find the application or to whom it should be sent, it is a good idea to check the municipality's website or call the municipality's service square.

The application must contain a medical certificate and clearly describe the need for HC parking. Information about whether you need extra space, e.g. to a lift or that you have to have the door fully open to get out of the car, as well as where you often have to park (e.g. work, studies, hospital, physiotherapy, other treatment, leisure activities, etc.). A photo (passport photo size) must also be attached.

The HC certificate provides the following

  • Toll exemption. An email/letter must be sent to the toll company with a photo of the decision and/or a photo of the HC certificate (they need information about who it applies to and the length of the period for the HC certificate). It is possible to register an exemption for up to two cars when you are the parent of a child with a valid HC certificate.
  • Free parking on marked HC spaces in municipal car parks.
  • Free parking in other paid parking spaces marked with sign 552 as a zone sign or main sign.
  • Exemption for studded tire fees.

ATTENTION! In car parks run by private companies, you usually have to pay a fee, but the fee can only be required if the payment solution is universally designed!

The parking permit can be used in all countries.

It is important to remember that the parking permit is personal, i.e. it follows the person and not the car, and it must be visible in the window when parking. It is not allowed to park in HC parking without the person who owns it being in the car/to be picked up where you park. The municipality can withdraw a given parking permit in case of misuse.
