MEETING WITH THE CHILDREN'S PALLIATION TEAM AT HEALTH FONNA HAUGESUND

Today the Children's Palliation Committee and Bære Sammen represented by Nina Herigstad, Janne Fjelde Thu and Eline Grelland Røkholt had a meeting with the children's palliation team at Helse Fonna Haugesund.

We received information about how they have worked since they were established in February, and what plans they have for the way forward. The team will create a platform for its work, despite the lack of funding for operations, which applies throughout to all children's palliative care teams in the country.

Among the important topics from the meeting was conversation about:

  • The need for increased and secure funding for all the country's palliative care teams.
  • Experiences from Bære Sammen and the families who are about to lose or have lost a child.
  • The need for dialogue and collaboration across children with rare and complex diagnoses that involve a shortened lifespan.
  • How a palliative diagnosis should be communicated to parents.
  • The importance of the specialist health service accompanying the child being clear with the municipalities about what the child's needs are.
  • Having a well-prepared and functional medication plan and contact with the doctor responsible for pain management.
  • Terminal phase and the importance of getting information about what choices you can make, and how to look after what is valuable to the family at the end of a child's life.
  • The importance of bereavement support for family and staff who work closely with the child and in the child's home.
  • What we work with in Bære Sammen as a project, with information about the Help Service, lectures, bereavement support and other sub-projects.

We thank you for an incredibly pleasant and good meeting, and look forward to further dialogue and cooperation with this committed team.
