Treatment trips

Reiser Søknad livskvalitet omsorgspenger

A treatment trip involves a 3-4 week treatment program in a warm and sunny climate abroad. Both children, young people and adults can apply for a treatment trip. The aim of a treatment journey is to contribute to improved function and quality of life, as well as to reduce symptoms caused by the disease.

What does a treatment journey entail?

A treatment trip consists of group training on land and in the pool, individual physiotherapy, sunbathing and some passive forms of treatment, teaching and health professional follow-up. The program will vary depending on the diagnosis.

Who can apply for treatment trips?

  • Children, adolescents and adults with rheumatic inflammatory joint disease
  • Children, adolescents and adults with psoriasis
  • Children and young people with chronic lung disease, asthma and/or atopic eczema
  • Adults with delayed injuries after poliomyelitis/post-polio syndrome
  • Patients with slowly progressive amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS/PLS)

Treatment trips abroad are a supplement to treatment in Norway, but there is no right.

How to apply for treatment travel

The application must be filled in partly by the applicant and partly by the applicant's attending physician. It is important that the application forms on the OUS website are used. The application form can be completed electronically, but must be printed, signed by the person with parental responsibility and sent by post. Application forms and application deadlines can be found under the various diagnosis groups at the website of OUS.

Prioritization of applicants

The withdrawal is based on an overall assessment of:

  1. Disease activity/severity
  2. Function level
  3. Treatment needs
  4. Expected benefit of the treatment
  5. Additional factors for increased prioritization
  6. Experiences from any previous stays

Companion on the journey

Children under the age of 14 may bring one companion with them on the treatment journey.
Young people between the ages of 14-18 who have a functional variation or where there are special needs/circumstances also have the right to have a companion with them. This must be documented and confirmed by a doctor, and attached to the application.

Deductible

The Storting has decided that adults and accompanying children pay a deductible of NOK. NOK 131 per day. That is NOK NOK 3,668 for a four-week treatment stay, and NOK NOK 2,751 for three weeks. Children and young people do not pay an excess, but accompanying children must pay an excess regardless of whether the person in question has a free card (rates are per 01.04.23). The deductible/copayment is paid after the treatment trip.

Coverage of lost income

The Norwegian Social Security Act gives the right to education allowance for up to two weeks for working parents who care for long-term ill or disabled children. Parental allowance and sickness allowance are equal to this. If you are already receiving care allowance during this period, you do not need to apply for training allowance.
If someone other than the parents applies for education allowance, they must have permanent and regular care for the child. It is not enough that you are family or have a close relationship.

How to apply for training allowance

Fill in the form that you have been sent from Behandingsreiser if you accept. The doctor at Behandlingreiser fills in an application form which is sent to you for signing and forwarding to NAV, together with a copy of the letter where the child is granted residence. If your employer does not advance training allowance, you must submit a form for income information (NAV 09-35.01) to NAV, so that you can get your salary paid directly from NAV.

Beyond these two weeks, you can use the extra days with care allowance (sick-child-days) which many have as parents of a chronically ill child, and possibly take some holiday. You can read more about care allowance here.

You will find more information about treatment trips, criteria, medicines, insurance, travel destinations etc here.
