Our regional team Løvemammaene Vest today received NOK 50,000 from Sparebanken Vest to put up ASK symbols in the outdoor areas of all municipal kindergartens in Bjørnafjorden municipality.
The aim of the project is to remove language as an obstacle in interaction and play between children and in communication with adults. All children who do not have a functional verbal language or refugees who come to the municipality must be able to make themselves understood in outdoor play through ASK. We know that the nurseries' outdoor areas are also used outside opening hours, and many are a meeting point for parents and children.
When communication is now facilitated across everyone, all children and adults will be able to be included in the game and a barrier to interaction will be removed. Parents and staff in the nursery will also have a more natural relationship with using ASK when it is available all the time. Research shows that an early start with ASK does not hinder the development of verbal language, but rather is a support for being understood.
The Løvemammaen would like to thank the local Sparebanken Vest for providing funds for a project that is a little "out of the ordinary", and that the municipality is providing resources for a project group that will prepare ASK signs for the kindergartens. This is truly a pioneering project!
Løvemammaene's regional team will seek other foundations and funds to set up similar projects in other municipalities that want such cooperation.
