How to get help

The Lionesses can assist members with support and guidance. Sometimes we can provide more in-depth assistance through project grants we receive.

Get help in a demanding everyday life

We know it's tough to fight the system and how difficult it is to navigate the jungle of rights. Getting the help and services you're entitled to is not a given, and for many it's unfortunately a struggle. Many feel alone, but know that you're not.

The Lion Mothers can provide support and guidance via email and telephone, and regularly hold themed evenings and rights courses for members both digitally and in person at various locations around the country. In addition, members can log in to our intranet Spark to find more information and use ready-made templates.

The Lion Mothers can help members identify their rights, read through applications and complaints, and sometimes provide support in meetings with agencies, etc. This is assessed individually and based on the capacity of the organization. Everyone who gets involved in the Lion Mothers generally has personal experience with having a child with special needs.

For children with life-threatening and/or expected shortened lifespans, we have a separate project called Carry Together, which follows up on families with offers such as guidance, follow-up, emotional support and grief support for both parents, siblings and the staff around the child. Because no one should have to carry their seriously ill child alone.

You must be a member to get help and access our forums.

Important information - clarification of expectations

The Lion Mothers is an organization that is run on a voluntary basis. There are no employees in the organization, as is the case in many other organizations. We are at all times at the mercy of our members who pay membership fees, donations from the business community and that we are allocated financial funds through project grants. You can therefore expect that we are very busy at all times, and although we have a burning commitment to providing all our members with good help and support, we are not able to help several thousand at the same time with the limited financial funds – and thus scarce resources – that we have. Therefore, please contact us in good time, if possible.

What can't we help with?

  • Parents' need for sick pay, AAP and disability benefits, etc.
  • Bullying cases concerning disabled children
  • Cases of involuntary school absence involving able-bodied children
  • Intoxication
  • Insurance matters
  • Visitation conflicts
  • Cases where parents have shared parental responsibility and one parent does not consent to help
  • Child protection cases*

*In these cases, we always make an individual assessment of whether we can assist at all, and if so, what we can contribute. Please contact us for clarification on this.

What happens after you contact us?

You will be contacted as soon as possible, but unfortunately there may be some response time at times. Please contact Elin, our contact person, if it is very urgent (see link to contact page above).

What do you do if you have a short appeal period?

If you would like guidance/assistance with a complaint and have a short deadline for filing a complaint, you can ask the relevant authority for an extension. You must send the question about an extension of the deadline for filing a complaint in writing to the authority to which you are going to file a complaint. Below you can see and copy an example of what you can write to request an extension of the deadline for filing a complaint:
"The undersigned requests an extension of the deadline for appealing this decision, as I wish to be assisted in accordance with the Public Administration Act."

Please refer to the reference/case number in your inquiry.

Note! Please note that before you have received a response from us, we do not take responsibility for any violation of the appeal deadline.
